Common use

Dutanol is a prescription medicine primarily used to manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men. BPH is a condition where the prostate gland becomes enlarged, which can cause urinary problems. This medicine belongs to a class of medications known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. This medicine also improves urinary symptoms associated with this condition. It decreases the risk of acute urinary retention, which is the inability to pass urine, and lessens the chance of needing prostate surgery.

Dosage and direction

Precautions

Liver disease: People with severe liver impairment should exercise caution as Dutanol could affect their condition.

Drug interaction

CYP3A4 inhibitors: Medicines such as ketoconazole and ritonavir can increase the concentration of dutasteride in the body when taken with Dutanol.
Alpha-blockers: When combined with Dutanol, medicines like tamsulosin or doxazosin may cause increased side effects, such as dizziness.

Missed dose

If you forget to take your Dutanol tablet, take it as soon as you remember unless it's nearly time for your next dose. If so, just skip the missed dose.

Overdose

If you accidentally take too many Dutanol tablets, you might experience common side effects more intensely. If you notice any increase in side effects, notify your doctor promptly.

Storage
