Common use

Obelit сapsule is primarily used to manage obesity, working effectively as part of a comprehensive weight management program. This medication belongs to a class of medicines known as lipase inhibitors. In addition to managing obesity, this capsule helps overweight individuals lose excess body weight and maintain the weight loss. Reducing body weight can lessen health risks like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease and improve your overall quality of life.

Dosage and direction

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. The medicine can be taken during or within 1 hour after each main meal that contains fat. If a meal is missed or does not contain fat, skip your dose of Obelit capsule. For optimal results, evenly distribute your daily intake of fat, protein, and carbohydrates over three main meals.

Precautions

Eating Disorders: The use of this medicine is not advised if you have eating disorders like anorexia nervosa or bulimia, as these conditions might become worse.
Thyroid Disorders: If you have a thyroid condition and are taking levothyroxine, you should take Obelit сapsule and levothyroxine at least 4 hours apart to prevent any potential interference with thyroid hormone absorption.
Diabetes: You should closely monitor your blood sugar levels as Obelit сapsule could affect blood sugar control.

Contraindications

Obelit сapsule should be avoided if you are pregnant. Breastfeeding mothers should either discontinue using Obelit сapsule or cease breastfeeding. Consult your doctor to understand the potential risks and benefits.
Obelit is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to the medicine. It is best avoided by those with gallbladder problems, chronic malabsorption syndrome (a digestive disorder that prevents the body from absorbing nutrients from food) or cholestasis (liver dysfunction that occurs when bile secretion and flow are reduced or stagnant).

Possible side effect

While taking Obelit, you might experience some of the following side effects: Oily spotting in faecal; Flatus with discharge (This refers to passing gas that may be accompanied by a small amount of fluid or faecal matter); Faecal urgency (You may feel a sudden, strong urge to pass stool); Increased defecation (You might need to go to the toilet more often than usual); Soft stools.

Drug interaction

Anticoagulants: Obelit (Orlistat) can interfere with the absorption of vitamin K, which can enhance the effects of anticoagulants like warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Antidiabetic Medications: Obelit (Orlistat) may affect blood glucose levels, potentially altering the effectiveness of antidiabetic medications like metformin.
Thyroid Hormones: Obelit (Orlistat) can decrease the absorption of levothyroxine, potentially leading to hypothyroidism.
Antiepileptic Medicines: The absorption of antiepileptic medicines such as valproate or lamotrigine may be reduced when taken with orlistat, possibly leading to decreased seizure control.

Missed dose

If you forget to take a dose of Obelit, take it as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Overdose

If you accidentally take more Obelit capsules than prescribed, you might experience symptoms like oily spotting in faeces, flatus with discharge, or increased defecation. If these symptoms persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Storage

Store Obelit capsule in a cool, dry place, ideally at a temperature below 30 degrees Celsius. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat. Keep it tightly sealed in its original packaging. Always keep this medicine out of reach of children.
